FAQs

What time does school start and end?
School starts at 8:40.
School ends at 3:25.

Will my child have recess everyday?
Your child will have outdoor recess at least twice a day weather permitting.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

How many snacks should I pack?
Snack time is offered twice a day.  Please send a healthy snack and water with your child daily.
If there is a child in the classroom with a nut allergy, the teacher may request your support in keeping snack time peanut-free.  Lunch time is NOT peanut-free.

What is the bathroom situation?
We have a bathroom in our classroom. Yay! Your child will be free to use the bathroom as needed. Please send in a change of clothes in a ziplock baggie with your child's name on it. We will store this in your child's cubby until winter when I will return it to you for updating.

What do I do when I pick up my child from school?
Information regarding pick up will be coming soon from administration.

Is there show and tell in kindergarten?
Yes and no.  I do not have a formal show and tell time.  But I know how special it is for kindergarteners.  With that said, children may bring in objects that they found or own that are from nature.  I do this for a few of reasons: 1)To integrate science and foster the innate curiosity in these young learners. 2)To motivate children to explore outdoors and learn about their environment. 3)To avoid children bringing in toys from home. You do not have to contact me before bringing in anything.  They can bring something in as frequently as they would like.  It is helpful to learn a little bit about it before they bring it in, but not necessary.

Can my child bring toys to school?
Toys tend to get lost and/or broken at school and can be a distraction for some children.  Therefore, all toys (including balls) should remain at home.  Additionally, jewelry, although fun and beautiful, can be a distraction and will mostly likely get lost at some point during the day!

What is the policy for birthdays?
We will celebrate every child's birthday in kindergarten.  Whether it happens over a weekend, holiday, or summer vacation each child's special day will be recognized.   On or around the birthday, the children will be sent home with a birthday bag with special books and a stuffed animal.  We also sing, try and find out some details about the day the child was born and plans for their special day. It is an exciting day in our classroom because it is the only time a student gets to stand on a chair!  Due to our wellness policy and allergies, please do not send in birthday treats.

Will you pass out birthday invitations for my child's birthday?
We do not pass out birthday invitations at school unless everyone is invited.  However, children do get excited and tend to open cards before they get home which lends well to forgetting it on the bus or misplaced in their backpack, etc.

Do you have volunteers in your class?
Unfortunately, there will be no volunteers this year.

What do I do if I need to change my child's after school arrangements?
If you would like to change your child's after school arrangements send in a note with specific instructions.   For your convenience,  you will receive a packet of bus notes at the beginning of the school year.   You should fill that in with as much information as you can.  If you run out more notes are available in the Rowe Office.  If you need to make a last minute change call the office.  Do not send an email.   I cannot guarantee that I will have time available during the school day to check my email. Although I realize that inevitable circumstances happen during the day in which dismissal plans need to be changed, it is preferable to make sure your arrangements are made before the start of the school day.  This will help to avoid multiple interruptions in the classroom and flooding of phone calls in the office.  Thank you for your consideration.

What time will the bus pick up/drop off my child?
This varies and the the transportation website is the best place to look for this information.

What should my child wear to school?
We do not have a dress code, however, it is important that your child come to school prepared for all weather conditions.  We go outside all year long and in all types of weather including light rain, snow, and heat.  So dress in layers when necessary and send in all appropriate gear everyday.  It is recommended that your child wear (or bring when weather isn't permitting) sneakers everyday.  Other footwear may be unsafe and/or impede some of the daily activities we do.  Please do not send your child in with jewelry, make up, electronics, or anything else that may cause distractions and get lost or broken.

Can my child get lunch and breakfast at school?
School lunches and snack (breakfast is eaten at snack time) will be free for children this year.  All school lunches include a chocolate or white milk. It is important that your child know his/her lunch plan before they come to school each day.  Many children will order a school lunch even if they have a lunch from home in their backpacks.  It can be confusing at the beginning of the year.  Also, please make sure your child will eat one of the lunch choices if ordering from school.   If they don't like the options, please send them with food from home.
